Bursaries

Students pursuing post-secondary education or other pursuits can apply for these bursaries through the Greater Victoria School District:

WITS Program Bursary – for students who demonstrate how the WITS Program has affected their lives.

Petronilo Palaroan Memorial Bursary – for 2SLGBTQ+ students. This bursary is named for passed treasured WPF employee Petro, an openly gay teacher of Filipino descent.

The first recipients of the WITS Program Bursary are Jasmine Zhang and Rio Schafer, pictured here with Witsup, and WPF director Fei Gao.

Jasmine created a comic strip that reflects her own experiences using her WITS to navigate conflicts at school, and also how she used the WITS strategies in other situations. Jasmine’s comic strip is available to subscribed schools in Educator Resources.

Rio recorded a compelling video describing victimization he experienced when attending a new school, and how the WITS strategies helped him to handle conflicts and feel safer at school. Rio’s video was featured in a WITS Program awareness campaign.

We wish Jasmine and Rio the best of luck with their post-secondary pursuits!

In the second year of bursaries, Blair Irwin presented the very first Petronilo Palaroan Memorial Bursary to Emma for her essay on how WITS has made a difference in her life.

Also in the second year, a Petronilo Palaroan Memorial Bursary was presented to Tamara for her story of how WITS made a big difference to her in competitive sport, and the WITS Bursary was presented to Ava  for her original hand-painted artwork depicting a multi coloured profile (using many of the WITS colours). see above

We acknowledge the generous support of Andrew Beckerman and many other donors to help support these bursaries.
